We spent some time remembering our history. We talked about what was happening it the world that led to the beginnings of the field of coaching and then we remembered the beginnings of the Back Porch Gang. Telling the stories of our formation and transition to our current structure, essence and membership was an energizing and joyful experience.
Once we remembered where we came from we moved into articulating where we are now, just getting a “freeze frame”locating of us in the moment we noticed:

We are a container that supports the Circle.
When we jumped ahead to what is our vision for coaching 50 years from now, we made these notes:
Coaching as special and different doesn’t exist.
It’s not needed. Everyone interacts as coaches.
It doesn’t exist as a profession, it’s part of our fabric.
Parents, managers, teachers use it.
Faculty are researching coaching more.
People looking back at the phenomenon we were a part of notice a breakthrough point leading to a major epoch.
We practice transpersonal communication.
Everybody understands the value of communication.
There are special coaches to help you get rebalanced.
There are no schedules. People don’t “go to work”. All work is meaningful.
The whole world moves up on Maslow’s hierarchy. Nobody is at the bottom level.
Societally actualized instead of self-actualized.
The 20th century was an anomaly.
Take the sense of connectedness and rebuild it.
Information glut gets reduced, information becomes intentional.
Coaching not just a western phenomenon.
Coaching is integrated with all cultures’ wisdom.
The female approach comes to the fore.
People take action from their inner being.
The world is the better place that we wanted.
Everyone is listened to.
Coaching is a catalyst for all the postmodern stuff.
Coaching is as transformational as the Gutenberg press or the light bulb.
Coaching was the catalyst for human potential.
We all listen to people.
Planet earth is a small part of the galactic universe - Copernican Revolution.
Anybody can afford and can get coaching.
Struggle is something to be embraced - no word for “obstacle”, replaced with “experience” or “opportunity”.
Coaching is preparing the soil for future generations - foundational work - we are teaching those generations - there are kids that are way ahead of us.
Our population is not segmented by age, gender, race, etc, but embracing of our individuality.
