24 October 2002
Facilitator: Mary Kay Johnston
Guest Speaker: Mary Fisher, Small Business Development Center
Attendees: Mary Kay, Karen, Christine, Lynne, Tony, Carmen, Victoria Lynne, Bobbie Wilson, Chris Davis, Terry Anna, Deborah Marstaller, Lucinda, and guest speaker Mary Fisher.
Mary Kay let everyone know that Martha will decide and discuss the details of how the $25.00 fee will be collected.
Christine, Tony and Mary Kay talked briefly about the evening eight of us met to vision the future of coaching and the future of NCCA. The "river" metaphor was touched on and that the vision some of us saw that evening was that coaching, as it is now, won't be necessary in fifty years. Everyone was invited to our seasonal get-togethers. (Besides the great conversation and connection felt, Lynne's "California" brownies and the cherry pie let all know what they missed out on!). Tony reminded us that we all have the vision to turn our passions into reality.
Mary Kay informed the group that this is the main community event our group will be participating in and will be held in conjunction with the International Week of Coaching. We are investing in marketing help to create more opportunity for greater exposure - this event has potential for benefiting all coaches, regardless of our individual focuses.
Victoria Lynne asked if we should join forces with the Boulder group ... Mary Kay deferred to Carl and Lynne and future planning group discussion. Initial reaction was that the joining of forces should probably be only in marketing efforts.
OF KEY IMPORTANCE:
Since this event will benefit all coaches in the group, we will need active participation from the group or the event will be cancelled.
Mary Kay shared that according to her discussion with Amos Martinez, anyone having a practice that involves "personal growth" may want to consider being registered as an unlicensed psychotherapist. Anyone not registered could potentially be prosecuted by the local district attorney. This issue will be discussed at the December meeting.
Looking for a January facilitator!
Introduced the services available from the Small Business Development Center and her role as director.
The center provides low cost, high quality planning assistance for owners of existing and start-up businesses. It also offers regularly scheduled half-day classes on business-related topics including: Business Planning for Success, Recordkeeping and Taxes, Business Marketing, and Financing Your Small Business.
Their three main areas of service are the classes, business counseling and assistance with financing. Mary offers "reality check" counseling - helping you determine whether self-employment and the type of business you've chosen is right for you. She also mentioned that volunteer mentors are available through the center to assist in their areas of expertise.
