NCCA Summer Coaching League:
"The Second Season"

Commissioner: Irene Stein

A What? Never heard of a summer coaching league? Well, I just made it up last year. It's a chance for us NCCA coaches to get together one-on-one throughout the summer and learn more about each other, different coaching techniques, and earn "points" in the process.

Who participates? The league is open to all NCCA coaches who sign up.

How does this work? After all coaches sign up (by the published deadline) I will publish a schedule. You will each be scheduled for a "match" with another participant for each week of the league except for an occasional 'bye.' You will be expected to contact your match that week (or thereabouts-I know people go on vacation), have a discussion according to the "match" guidelines (either on phone or in person), and then each of you will email the commissioner (me) with the results of the match. That's the general idea. This year I will try to have a theme for each week. You can get extra points for helping me think up themes.

Then what are the details?

  1. Sign up by emailing me irenestein@att.net with 'Summer Coaching League' in the subject line. Include your name, email address and phone number, and a short paragraph on what you want to get out of participating in the league (your intention). Don't send money-there's no entry fee. Deadline is June 5th by 10pm.
  2. A general schedule will be published and each week you will be reminded of your match. (Depending on number of participants, matches may be bi-weekly or every 10 days.)
  3. You may coach each other or just have a conversation. Find out about the other coach's coaching philosophy, background and technique. Make sure you are getting your intention(s) met. Talk at least some about the week's theme.
  4. Email the commissioner after each match with a) who you talked with; b) one new thing you learned that you can use; c) one thing about the other you didn't know before; d) one comment related to the weekly theme. You get points for each of these responses.
  5. Attend the end-of-summer league awards banquet (optional).
  6. Have fun!!!

What if there is a dispute about getting together? Work it out with each other-you are coaches, you know. Otherwise, the commissioner (me) will have final say on "rule" disputes.
