- They are having a social, Monday 30 August, 6:30pm Outlook hotel
in Boulder
- Details:
http://www.bouldercoaches.org/events.htm
- The purpose is networking, meeting people
- Last year's had good attendance from Denver and Boulder
- They are also bringing in Julio Olalla in December, details
will be forthcoming
DCF Business Coaching conference is September 30
Community Outreach
- Boulder had set up a relationship with University of
Phoenix
- They had a booth at the UofP but didn't get a response, so
they're re-evaluating
- Carl's had a little resistance from CSU, they want to
maintain fairness between coaches
- Bobbie hasn't had any response from AIMS
- Sue is thinking of contacting Larimer County Workforce
Investment Board, to see if there's interest in us doing (unpaid) presentations
or coaching/mentoring or workshops
- JJ/ The conference in September is expected to have
200-300 people
- Lou Wymeisner
- The program's pretty set for September, but maybe in the
future….
- Pat/ We could find a student at CSU who wants to do
research on coaching? Would give us visibility, credibility, further the
profession
- The key is to have enough people involved that it doesn't
overburden any individual
- Sue will put together a proposal to bring to our next
meeting
Future meetings
- In September we will have a networking activity, to learn
more about each other as coaches and what we're doing
- In October, the proposal is to focus on coaching for
special needs and niches
- In November, we'd like to do something around special
passions
- We may or may not meet in November – in the past we have
replaced the Nov/Dec meetings with a single party
- The holiday party is proposed for Saturday December 11th
at Joan's house in Redstone canyon
Venue
- Some people have remarked that Golden Corral can be noisy
- Sue researched and found that Golden Corral or Johnny
Carino's in Loveland would be the best options, if we want to meet over lunch
- Or if we want to meet at a different time, we could rent a
meeting room for a reasonable price
- Sue will check out the meeting rooms and set a different
time for the October/November meetings
- Jeff Myers will facilitate the September meeting
JJ Johnston – Northern Colorado Economic Development
Corporation
- NCEDC is a non-profit organization
- http://www.ncedc.com
- We have a billion dollars in capital construction, 4
million square feet, not including residential development
- JJ's been in economic development for 24 years, including 3
of the 10 poorest communities in the US
- Fort Collins and Loveland economic development groups
combined together 3 years ago
- NCEDC's primary mission is to expand and protect the
existing businesses we have
- "Getting better jobs for people who already live here" – we
have many people who live here but don't work here
- NCEDC doesn't do back room deals or cut large checks,
doesn't advocate population growth
- It's about improving the quality of life. NCEDC has seen
an increase of 30% of people asking for help last year. Underemployment is the
most critical, most immediate need.
- We have a shortage of 10,000 nurses predicted, and NCEDC
has worked with local colleges to invest in training.
- They work a lot with Site Selectors to show what the region
has to offer, this affects a large number of large companies.
- We have weaknesses in higher education, in costs
- Presentations always include the Workforce Center
(including mapping skills to the company's needs), CSU, AIMS, government
- NCEDC has targeted specific industries based on the skills
and resources in the community
- They worked with a developer to create a 5 year plan to
replace the interchange at US34 and I-25
- JJ is working to bring government, industry and education
to have discussions about our regional growth/development issues
- They've worked with small businesses to find grants, to
help grow. Most of the companies they're working with have less than 25
employees.
- "We don't do it all ourselves, but we know who knows the
answer"
- Primary industry is those companies that don't just deliver
value in the community, but to customers country-wide and world-wide
- They're working on putting a lot more data on their website
