What if you are coaching someone leaving their homeland never to return. What approach would you take? What questions would you ask?

What do you want your new life to be?
How will you create that?
What do you need to become internally?
How can you bring connection between your past and your future? What do you want to take with you?
An "ending" ritual to acknowledge and honor the past, bringing closure (the importance of individualizing the ritual!)
Who else needs to be involved in that?
How do you address your fears around this change? Or what alternatives can help you to exclude the fears and move beyond?

Toastmasters "table topics" exercise - John Spencer

John got involved with NoCoNet and felt that he struggled with presenting there
He got hooked up with Toastmasters and has found it to be very helpful
Roles:
- Timer - John
- Someone to count "ahs" - Lloyd
- Grammarian to monitor use of language - nobody
The point: Coaches often need to talk about their ideas, to give an elevator speech, to explain something, to do a workshop. We need to get comfortable with it.
Each person wrote a question or two on a slip of paper, for someone else to extemporaneously speak about
Each person picked a question out of the hat, thought about it for 30 seconds, and did a 1½ - 2½ minute presentation

Carl talked about how he came to coaching, the work that he's doing with coaching in HP and the creation of his book.

Chapter business

ICF

The polls are now open for the leadership positions in the ICF
There's been some concern about people using coaches' mailing addresses for spam
We need to figure out who from our chapter will be able to go to the chapter leader's meeting at the conference in Quebec
John has a form for putting tributes in the ICF proceedings book
If you sign up for the ICF yearly membership before October 1, it'll be $155, otherwise it goes up to $195.

NCCA Meetings

Today we added a chance to informally talk today, but it wasn't really a check-in as we have sometimes done.
It would be good to declare the intention for the check-in period, especially to give news and announcements, make connections, whatever
And give everybody the option to speak in turn
Location: good, centrally located
Time: mixed feelings, some like later in the day, some don't

Lloyd's handout

Lloyd and Pat are writing a book, "Total Life Coaching," on fundamental principles and lessons, and how to coach around them
It's due to release in December

Terry's announcement

Irene's announcement

Irene is running the 2nd annual Coaching Research Symposium at the ICF conference in Quebec
It costs $109 for the pre-conference day
The keynote speaker is our very own Dianne Stober!
